Remember last week, when Republicans were claiming the public opinion polls were politically-motivated bullcrap, "skewed" by the media in favor of Barack Obama?

Lies and Damn Lies
“Things come apart so easily when they have been held together with lies.” -- Dorothy Allison, author of Bastard Out of Carolina.
Despite the early negative reviews about the beating Barack Obama took from all sides last night, it's beginning to look like the Zen Master, King of the Rope-a-Dope, Smoovest President Ever may end up confounding us all again.
While the early headlines were all about Mitt Romney and how he pwn'd the President, the smart money is beginning to reveal the extended take-away from Debate #1 is going to be all about Mitt's lies (and his proposed firing of Big Bird).
The morning papers may have given yesterday to Romney, but it's the evening papers that tell you what happened today, and today America is beginning to figure out that Mitt Romney is a lying bastard who will say anything to get elected.
The morning papers may have given yesterday to Romney, but it's the evening papers that tell you what happened today, and today America is beginning to figure out that Mitt Romney is a lying bastard who will say anything to get elected.
Here's one example. And another. And another. And another. And another. And another. And another. And another. There are plenty more here.
Inappropriate Ageist Post of the Day
Not to disrespect our elders, but perhaps Jim Lehrer's ineffectual debate moderation was the result of his being 78-years-old? He certainly didn't appear to have the necessary vigor to take charge of the proceedings when things started going off the rails. I'm thinking specifically of the point early on when Romney just steamrollered right through him toward the "end" of Round One.

Debate Subtext Primer
Potential Romney "zingers" in tonight's debate:
- Teleprompter jokes.
- Birth certificate jokes.
- School transcript jokes.
- Teleprompter jokes (because those never get old).
- "Dependency President" jokes.
In a nut, each is a thinly-veiled racist attack, predicated on the white Republican base voters' fear of a black president.

ROMNEY APOLOGIZES
Little Lord Fauntleromney goes into full damage-control mode:
“First and foremost, I would like to offer a heartfelt apology to all the whores, junkies, bums, and grime-covered derelicts out there who make up nearly half our nation. Let me assure you that I in no way meant to offend any of the putrid-smelling, barefoot masses out there. My campaign is not about dividing this nation, but about bringing all sides together—the rich, elegant members of the upper class, as well as the 47 percent who are covered in flies and eat directly from back-alley dumpsters."
“I am fully committed to building a better future for every American, and that means ensuring all 150 million grease-and-urine-soaked members of our society get a fair shake.”
Fork. Done. Full Stop.
I feel kinda bad that this new video of Little Lord Fauntleromney is coming out now, because it cheapens the value somewhat of my long-standing prediction that Barack Obama is going to kick the Mormon Millionaire's ass come November.
But still...this is surely the death knell for Team Romney:

Thought for the Day.
Barack Obama is going to win this election by a wide margin.
Move along.

Rooting Against America
It's really Mitt Rmoney's only route to the White House.

Rmoney's Tax Plan: He's Doing It Wrong
Normally I would say Rmoney's got this tax plan wrong, but proposals like this are a feature, not a bug, for Republicans:
Mitt Romney’s tax plan would be a boon for the wealthy, but a tax hike for 95% of Americans, according to a new nonpartisan study. [ed. note: emphasis added.]

Ann Romney is Pro-Choice
That's how I'd spin this one.

R-Money's Advance Team Plots Next Appearance
Following up on the Ford Field Fiasco, Mitt Romney's next appearance is set to include a "huge object."

R-Money Overestimates the Guest List
Mitt Romney gave what his campaign staff billed as a "major policy speech" today at Ford Field (home of the Detroit Lions) in the Motor City. Apparently they chose that venue based on slightly unrealistic attendance estimates...

Reminds me of that time Barack Obama arranged to give a speech in a large football stadium. Perhaps you recall what an embarrassment that was.

Santorum Can't Duck the Frothy Mix
Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has spent the better part of the past few years trying to put his "Google problem" behind him, but apart from the fact that any "rise in the polls" or "bump in his numbers" leads to snickering headlines about a Surge of Santorum, he releases unintentionally hilarious disgusting commercials like this one....
Just what is that substance the R-Money character is shooting at Rick?
We're not sure, but it looks a lot like "Santorum."

Nose Dive

Take a look at the trend lines for Mitt Romney's favorability rating over the past six weeks. Still a long way to go until November, but everything seems to be falling into place for President Obama.

Campaigns are a Marathon, Not a Sprint
Much the same way a NASCAR driver can find himself leading the race for the Sprint Cup championship with a bunch of Top-5 finishes but no wins, or a mediocre women's tennis player can be ranked #1 for more than a year without ever winning a Grand slam event, Mitt Romney is still the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, despite the fact that he's won just 1 primary out of the 8 contests held so far. Wouldn't it seem the front-runner ought to have a few people actually willing to vote for him?

Bad Choice of Words...?
Something tells me this little interview is going to come back to haunt Mitt Romney...
