All the Blame, None of the Credit
They spent months through the summer and fall blaming President Obama for the high price of gasoline, but I haven't really heard anybody on the Right side of the aisle mentioning lately that the price at the pump has fallen by about $1.00 per gallon (roughly 20%!) since his re-election.

The Horse-race
![]() |
| [Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear...] |
Just to be clear, statistician Nate Silver is not saying Barack Obama is going to run away with the election next Tuesday. On the contrary, it will likely be a very close race or, more precisely, a series of very close races in half-a-dozen or so crucial swing states. What Nate Silver and FiveThirtyEight are saying is that the probability that Barack Obama is going to win is about 80%.
Silver is not saying the President going to get 80% of the vote. He's saying only that there's an 80% chance the President will win. One would have to be deliberately obtuse or completely ignorant of statistics not to understand that. So hold on to your hats, it's going to be a nail-biter, but it's 80/20 Obama gets re-elected.

Ah....Memories
Remember last week, when Republicans were claiming the public opinion polls were politically-motivated bullcrap, "skewed" by the media in favor of Barack Obama?

Why Obama Now
One of the better explanations of why/how the Republican economic policies of the past 30+ years have failed. Voiced by the President himself, natch.
Stop allowing your self to be deceived:: It's ARITHMETIC people!

Lies and Damn Lies
“Things come apart so easily when they have been held together with lies.” -- Dorothy Allison, author of Bastard Out of Carolina.
Despite the early negative reviews about the beating Barack Obama took from all sides last night, it's beginning to look like the Zen Master, King of the Rope-a-Dope, Smoovest President Ever may end up confounding us all again.
While the early headlines were all about Mitt Romney and how he pwn'd the President, the smart money is beginning to reveal the extended take-away from Debate #1 is going to be all about Mitt's lies (and his proposed firing of Big Bird).
The morning papers may have given yesterday to Romney, but it's the evening papers that tell you what happened today, and today America is beginning to figure out that Mitt Romney is a lying bastard who will say anything to get elected.
The morning papers may have given yesterday to Romney, but it's the evening papers that tell you what happened today, and today America is beginning to figure out that Mitt Romney is a lying bastard who will say anything to get elected.
Here's one example. And another. And another. And another. And another. And another. And another. And another. There are plenty more here.
Inappropriate Ageist Post of the Day
Not to disrespect our elders, but perhaps Jim Lehrer's ineffectual debate moderation was the result of his being 78-years-old? He certainly didn't appear to have the necessary vigor to take charge of the proceedings when things started going off the rails. I'm thinking specifically of the point early on when Romney just steamrollered right through him toward the "end" of Round One.

Debate Subtext Primer
Potential Romney "zingers" in tonight's debate:
- Teleprompter jokes.
- Birth certificate jokes.
- School transcript jokes.
- Teleprompter jokes (because those never get old).
- "Dependency President" jokes.
In a nut, each is a thinly-veiled racist attack, predicated on the white Republican base voters' fear of a black president.

Hopey/Changey Biased Observation
Just thought I'd take this opportunity to remind you:
We gonna win and we gonna win big.

Fork. Done. Full Stop.
I feel kinda bad that this new video of Little Lord Fauntleromney is coming out now, because it cheapens the value somewhat of my long-standing prediction that Barack Obama is going to kick the Mormon Millionaire's ass come November.
But still...this is surely the death knell for Team Romney:

Keepin' It Classy
If I didn't know any better, I'd say Sarah Palin just accused Barack Obama of having a small penis.
"We already know that President Obama likes to 'speak softly' to our enemies. If he doesn’t have a 'big stick' to carry, maybe it’s time for him to grow one.""Wink, wink; nudge, nudge. KnowhatImean?"

Boing Boing
I guess honesty, class and style do count for something after all...
President Obama’s post-convention “bounce” continued to grow Saturday, as new polls showed him widening a lead over Republican nominee Mitt Romney.
Obama’s lead over Romney among registered voters grew to 49%-45% in Gallup’s tracking poll. The 49% for Obama was his highest point in the survey since late April. It represented an increase of 1 point since Friday and a 5-point swing from Romney’s 47%-46% lead in the Gallup survey just before the Republican convention began.

Big Dog Ale
Even after all these years, and despite the presence on the scene of Barack "Coolest President Ever" Obama, Bill Clinton still wins the "politician I'd most like to sit down and have a beer with" contest, hands down.

Election 2012: Inside the Numbers
While most of the general election national public opinion polls show a fairly close race between Barack Obama and Mitt Rmoney, when you break things down state-by-state (which just happens to be how we decide these things in our mixed-up little democracy), the President holds a fairly substantial lead in the Electoral College: 310-to-191 (with 270 votes needed).

Obama on the GOP Budget: A Trojan Horse
"Thinly veiled Social Darwinism." "A prescription for decline."
He lost the entire Republican audience when he used the word "antithetical." [Because they don't know what that means!]
