Homegrown Terror of the Christianist Kind

Note the dateline on this story (about which I've heard nothing in the national or even statewide news) and remember that New York Congressman Peter King has been holding hearings exclusively about Islamic terrorism on American soil. As far as I can tell, regular Americans have much more to fear from right-wing religious nuts than any ol' run-of-the-mill Muslin terr'ists.
MADERA -- A Chowchilla school bus driver has been charged with firebombing a Planned Parenthood office here last September, and authorities said Thursday he also is responsible for vandalism and menacing signs left at the city's Islamic center.

Donny Eugene Mower, 37, of Madera, was arrested Wednesday on federal charges of attacking a reproductive health clinic. If convicted, he faces a minimum of five years in prison.

The September firebombing came several weeks after someone threw a brick at the Madera Islamic Center and left signs there, including one that read, "Wake up America, the enemy is here."

The Terrorists Have Already Won

If this post at Hullabaloo doesn't scare you, perhaps it should.

I've often wondered the same...with all the security measures now in place at airports across the country, why wouldn't an enterprising terrorist simply retool his (or her) evil plan and hit a shopping mall instead? Or a swap meet? Or a church service? Or a "Concert in the Plaza?" Or a Farmer's Market? Or a gathering on the National Mall. Or Times Square [oops, tried that, got busted]. Or a college commencement? Or a high school football game? Or the Amtrak train from DC to Boston. Or a PTA meeting? Or....?

I trust you get the point.

With blowing up airplanes [apparently] off the table as a terrorism option -- due in no small measure to the rule that says, thank God, one can't carry a 5-ounce bottle of water onto an aircraft (though 4 ounces is okay) -- that leaves only, oh, several tens of thousands of other casualty-rich targets throughout this vast country.

There, I've said it. Are you scared now?

Domestic Terrorism

I don't really care whether the envelope was actually dangerous or not, mailing a letter adorned with swastikas and containing loose white powder to a sitting Hispanic congressman up for relection and embroiled in the Arizona immigration debate is a textbook case of domestic terrorism.

Inglorious Bastard

This guy's seen too many movies.
An American armed with a pistol and a 40-inch (102-centimeter) sword was detained in northern Pakistan and told investigators he was on a solo mission to kill Osama bin Laden, a police officer said Tuesday.

Would-Be Bombing Suspect

Okay, so I was wrong. Much like just after Oklahoma City, when everyone was looking for a Muslim terrorist.

The Obvious Choice

I'm callin' it here: the "Times Square Bomber" is a domestic right-wing whack-job rather than an Islamic terrorist.

Deja Vu: The Danger of the Tea Party Rhetoric

Republicans in Washington and conservatives in the Right Wing media dismiss most of the wacko incidents of threats and profanity against Democratic lawmakers and activists as the random acts of a bunch of harmless yahoos.

Rachel Maddow, noting that next Monday is the anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, points out that much of what we are hearing today is exactly what Timothy McVeigh was saying in the 1990s.
"When do you draw the line to say enough is enough? Somebody has to send a message to say you can't go any further." -- Timothy McVeigh
