The NBA's "Win or Go Home" slogan has to be the most ridiculous ad campaign since somebody decided the Kit-Kat bar is so tooth-jarringly crunchy that you disturb people in the library and can't hear yourself think while you're eating one. Hello? Corn-nuts a Kit-Kat ain't.
Look, the NCAA Basketball Tournament features a "win or go home format," hence the expression "one and done." The champion of college basketball must win six games in a row, it's in the rules. In the NBA Playoffs, a team could potentially lose twelve games (12!!) and still win the championship. That is most decidedly not a "win or go home" scenario.
The San Antonio Spurs lost at home to the Memphis Grizzlies today in Game 1 of their round-of-16, best-of-seven. Are the Spurs going home? I think not. In fact, they are still favored to win the series. So please, spare us this "win or go home" nonsense.
