Remembering the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire

This week marks the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, a [preventable] tragedy that killed 146 female garment workers aged 16-to-23, exposed the cynical, profit-driven ways of the textile industry and ultimately led to a whole host of workplace safety rules, not to mention giving rise to a nationwide workers' rights movement. HBO is airing a special on the Triangle fire tonight at 9pm. That's the trailer up above. More on the fire and its impact on American labor history here and here.
