I'm no expert on the history of the US Supreme Court, but I had always thought it was generally accepted by legal scholars and others in the know that Thurgood Marshall is among the greatest justices the Supreme Court has ever known. Not anymore, if we're to believe the slagging he's getting from the Republicans at today's Elena Kagan confirmation hearings.
