Somebody needs to explain to me how Meg Whitman's plan to fix California's budgetary woes by laying off 40,000 [40,000!] state workers squares with her other campaign promise, which is to bring jobs back to the Golden State. It would seem to me the two issues are fairly closely related, and 40,000 layoffs is a helluva lotta people in a state grappling with 12%+ unemployment.
