Incredible that this story would not note the fact that the teacher is a Muslim. [Where's Paul Harvey with the rest of the story?] Although I suppose her last name should have been a clue, I'll admit I didn't pick up on it. Leaving a bible on her desk sounds like a fairly innocuous sort of thing until you learn of the teacher's religious affiliation, then it becomes a clear provocation. Now I can just imagine those students singing "Jeezuz loves me" at her, with malevolent Stepford children smiles pasted on their faces. "Ignorant Southern rednecks" indeed.
UPDATE: Apparently it is unclear whether the teacher is actually a Muslim, but it is clear that the students' Christian-based insubordination was actively encouraged by their parents.
