The whole bowing thing blows my mind - shouldn't, at this point, but it does. I realize that we Americans have no respect for anyone, disdain the thought of showing respect to anyone, and take outrageous offense when we are not shown the respect we deserve, but the idea that it is somehow wrong or weak or beneath our dignity for our President to show proper cultural respect to the Emperor of another nation, is mind boggling. The guy our President bowed to - not this guy in the jumper, the other guy, Akihito - is the freakin' Emperor for chrissakes! 2,660 years in succession. I guess some in the U.S. would rather go back to the former self-appointed masseur of the UK Queen. He certainly impressed a lot of people.
