This year, the 24th annual Coastal Cleanup Day drew 1,290 volunteers throughout SLO County. They collected 4,611 pounds of marine debris, including 2,970 pounds of trash and 1,641 pounds of recyclables.
The cleanup effort stretched over 70 miles, from San Simeon State Beach to Point Sal.
Statewide, 60,000 volunteers in 48 counties collected trash on 2,100 miles of shoreline.
