No Sleep 'til Brooklyn

So check it out, another high point of the Booty and Hornet Summer Tour was seeing the Beastie Boys play in Brooklyn, NY. Thursday, 08.09.07. We road the 'J' train over with Patrick and his girl Liz. The site was McCarren Park Pool, the biggest pool I've ever seen in my life. It would take at least 20 lifeguards to patrol said pool. Fortunately for us, it was empty at the time of the show. Appraently, this facility came into being as a concert venue after the pool was abandoned in the 1980s. The place became a haven for junkies, skateboarders and graffiti artists. I guess this is how it used to look. Not any more....

The Beasties hit the stage just after 8pm. They rocked the house pool, playing 28 songs. They opened the show with Hello Brooklyn and closed it with -- naturally -- No Sleep Til Brooklyn. I got right up front for the pics, Booty hung back for the vidz. The crowd was insane, and the Boys were out of their heads. Mike D must've mentioned 4 or 5 times it was the first time the B-Boyz had ever even played in Brooklyn. He usually followed that up by saying, "And I went to high school right over there!!" They were jacked.

I've said it before, and I stand by my contention: Nobody can do it like Mixmaster can. Mixmaster Mike is clearly the most talented B-Boy, and his 10-minute mixing jam right before the final encore was Off. The. Hook.

Here are some pics. I'm uploading the vidz as I type.
