Now comes word the US Defense Department's "Black Budget" spending alone would place us 8th on the list of countries ranked by military expenditures. The $682-billion we spend "on the books" each year -- the secret "Black Budget" is on top of that -- is more than 4 times that of the second most paranoid nation on Earth and accounts for fully 38.9% of all the military spending in the world.
Meanwhile, Congress is cutting food stamps (eliminating assistance for more than 5 million people) and Head Start -- a program on which we spend about $8-billion per year. In fact, "Black Budget" spending exceeds that of Head Start, the Justice Department and the National Park Service combined.
