Close to Home

An agitated Morro Bay High School student with a hunting rifle prompted a 30-minute lockdown of the high school campus around 1:30 [yesterday].
Principal Dan Andrus said the lockdown went into effect after a worried relative of the student called the school.
Classroom doors were locked, blinds were drawn and teachers were notified of the situation.
Andrus said the student became agitated earlier in the day, returned home and grabbed his hunting rifle. The family member didn’t know whether the student was headed back to campus with the gun or was going somewhere else.
Police officers were able to locate the student and diffuse the situation off campus.
