I would say whatever slim chance Mitt Rmoney had of winning the upcoming presidential election was lost for good in the last 18 hours or so. The long-story-short is that there were some protests last night outside the US embassies in Egypt and Libya, and Rmoney decided some of the Obama administration's public statements on the matter would be a good launching pad for making some political hay by criticizing President Obama for "sympathizing" with terrorists.
In the meantime, the situation in the Middle East morphed from inconvenient to tragic, and now Rmoney is being excoriated from all sides for his insensitivity and his ineptitude. The Republican candidate committed a gaffe of epic proportions, a gaffe so huge it's like chum for the jackals (to mix a metaphor) in the Washington press corps.
This foreign policy blunder is not going away anytime soon.
The screaming headaline you'll be seeing in every newspaper and on every newss broadcast (except for FOX, natch) is this:
Mitt Rmoney -- not the man you want holding the nuclear football.
