Passing Judgement

Make no mistake about it, when Republicans are proposing legislation limiting the choices of food assistance recipients, it's all about passing judgement, increasing the stigma and making life more difficult for people in need.

One of my least favorite hearsay stories is the one where conservatives are caught saying "I saw someone using food stamps to buy soda pop...or potato chips {SHRIEK!!} at the checkout counter." There's a reason the administrators of food stamp program switched over from paper scrip to debit cards, and it wasn't just to save money. It was to keep judgmental assholes from looking down their noses at needy people in line at the supermarket.
