In a discussion I caught last night on CNN's "That British Guy Who Replaced Larry King," one of the guests (guy named Mike Sitrick, a PR guy) said Hollywood's reaction to the Arnold Schwarzeneggar scandal -- i.e., potential damage to his film career -- would be different from that of the general public's because "LA, Chicago and New York are not the real America. The real America is in the 'heartland.'" Oh, spare me. The population of those three areas combined is 41.6 million people, close to 15% of the population of the entire United States. They are the national epicenters of commerce, growth, education and cultural understanding. They set the tone and direction of the country. To dismiss the opinions of 41.6 million people is patently absurd.
