Paid Maternity Leave? Thank a Union for That

This sure is a crazy country we live in. At the same time that we see the labor movement being scapegoated for the nation's economic woes and pushed into near irrelevancy, comes this laugh out loud moment: A new report decries the lack of "a national policy on maternity leave." News Flash! There'd surely be no maternity leave at all without the influence of organized labor unions. Same goes for the 8-hour workday, the 40-hour work week, sick leave, vacation leave, bathroom breaks, anti-discrimination laws, child labor protections, workplace safety regulations and countless other advances in our daily working environments. It's thanks to the workers, not the managers!
