The Academy Award nominations came out today.
Two things I noticed right off the bat...
Hailee Steinfeld deserved a Best Actress nomination for her role in True Grit. It makes no sense at all to give a Supporting Actress nomination to the leading lady in a film, unless they were looking for a backdoor way to guarantee her a trophy because, believe you me, Jennifer Lawrence was the best actress in a film this year.
If there's one nominated film you haven't seen, check out Winter's Bone. It's bleak, it's depressing, it's damn near hopeless...and it has Jennifer Lawrence in one of the strongest roles I've seen in years. I swear, I thought this movie was a documentary, it's that down-to-Earth realistic.
