Tax Policy Never Favors the Middle-Class

Barely a week after enacting legislation extending a series of tax cuts for Americans making more than $250,000, there are rumblings in Washington about eliminating the home mortgage interest tax deduction, one of the most generous tax policy issues available to taxpayers in the less-than-wealthy income brackets. This deduction lops about $9,000 a year off my Adjusted Gross Income, and all I own is a crappy little condo.

If you ever want proof that Republicans care only for the richest of Americans, compare their rhetoric about cutting the estate tax, or the capital gains tax, to what they'll have to say about the mortgage interest tax deduction come January. And watch the Dems roll over on it too, natch.
