Doing the Math

Steve Lopez at the LA Times looked into a few other ways Meg Whitman could have blown her wad of (by his count) $140,000,000.
For $140 million, Meg Whitman could have bought every man, woman and child in Ojai -- population 7,800 -- a brand new Toyota Corolla.

Or, taking advantage of a deal now being offered by Domino’s, the GOP candidate for California governor could have sent two medium pizzas, with two toppings each, to every household in California.
Seriously. I did a little research myself, and lookee here, Meg Whitman could have paid the payroll for the 2010 Philadelphia Phillies. She could have paid the entire jackpot for the state of Texas' July 2010 lottery payoff. She could have covered the cost of fighting the war in Afghanistan for almost one full day. She could have sent 12,172 kids to a top-notch preschool for one year, or paid one year's tuition expenses for 6,163 students at the University of California. She could have financed truck driving school for 28,000 people, who might have used that newfound skill to find work. She could have bought 2,058,824 kids a ticket to Disneyland or sent 227,642 kids to summer camp at the YMCA. Yep, as it is, it looks like there's one thing $140-million won't buy you , and that's the governorship of the state of California.

  1. Here's a nice site that summarizes who's dumping money into the props. A quick tally in my head from the money pouring into the props shows the teachers' unions/pacs pushing about $20,000,000 overall. That too is a lot of money. Always interesting to know who's backing what.

  2. What is the deal with the women GOP governor candidates and their crime propensity sons. Arizona’s Jan Brewer AKA Punky Brewster son (Ronald Brewer) is in jail for kidnapping and sexual assault and California’s Meg Whitman, AKA NutMeg son (Griffith Rutherford Harsh V) was accused of sexually assaulting a female classmate at Princeton University and arrested for breaking a woman’s ankle in California during a bar brawl, no jail time, sweet. I guess these two have Mommy issues.

Nutmeg will lose as will Carly the tremendous failure of HP, don’t come crying to me if the GOP, keeps finding weak candidates, its like Mccain with the half-term Governor Palin all over again, what a joke that was, I mean comedian, talk show guest, commentator, now her new BS on the (of all places) The learning Channel, jack of all trades, master of none.

June 14, 2010, The New York Times, Ebay paid out $200,000 because Nutmeg assaulted an employee, so it’s not the first time she has mistreated an employee.

“The Whitman campaign issued a statement signed by Ms. Whitman that described Ms. Young Mi Kim as a “respected colleague and valuable asset to the company. In any high-pressure working environment, tensions can surface,” the statement said. ” Not quite a denial, what a fool she is.

I must say one thing about Nutmeg is that she is a good parrot and the cracker she wants is CA:

  3. @Baughb: No one said it would be cheap. I'm sure Jerry Brown is spending a boatload of money. It's just that Meg Whitman -- the woman who never voted -- is spending her own money, and that doesn't scream out fiscal prudence.

@ Montana: "What is the deal with the women GOP governor candidates and their crime propensity sons."

It's one part lack of oversight and two parts sense of entitlement (mom and dad are rich fucks). A heady brew and a recipe for trouble, no doubt.
