With all the recent talk about the "Bush tax cuts" and whether it is (or is not) a good idea to let them expire at the end of the year, the chart below ought to at least put the lie to the claim that the issue makes one whit of difference (rhetorically and/or financially) to the majority of lower-class, working-class, middle-class and even upper-middle-class Americans. Should the Bush cuts be allowed to sundown on the wealthy, people making $300,000 per year will see their taxes go up $4,000 a year! Cry me a river, how will they ever afford that new Lexus and the private school tuition? Are we to understand that a $6,000 tax increase is going to break a family making $500,000 a year?
