Once again, Democrats (with a big assist from Droopy Dawg Lieberman) are shooting themselves in the foot with their inability to keep the caucus unified. Here's the latest: The Bush tax cuts are set to expire at the end of this year. President Obama has promised to protect the tax cuts for all Americans earning less than $250,000 a year. In order to do that, Obama needs Congress to pass legislation extending those cuts, which would also require the legislature to address the issue of tax cuts for those making more than $250,000. Should the bill seek to let those cuts expire, the measure would likely come under a filibuster in the Senate -- which would be certain to include a handful of Democratic senators. If Congress does nothing (the easy road for cowardly politicians), all the tax cuts expire for everyone. Well, these callow, craven lawmakers, like Joe Lieberman, Kent Conrad, Ben Nelson and the rest of the post turtles in the Dem caucus, would rather let all the cuts expire than go on record casting a vote for the little man while letting the cuts expire on those making more than 250-grand.
