The most remarkable thing about this story isn't that Charles Rangel is out as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, nor that the loose-lipped and acerbic Pete Stark was handed the gavel to replace him. No, the most remarkable thing about this story is that Pete Stark is living proof you can indeed get elected to office even if you are an avowed atheist. Pete Stark is the only elected official in the United States who can make that claim. Who knew it was even possible?
