Fighting intensifies in Baghdad as Petraeus prepares to testify

Monday was one of the most intense days of fighting involving U.S. troops in recent months. The general faces Congress today.

BAGHDAD -- Three more U.S. troops were killed Monday as Iraqis struggled to bury their dead amid fierce street battles between Shiite Muslim militias and Iraqi and American soldiers in the nation's capital...

I suppose it'll be interesting to hear how they spin the disaster this time -- as opposed to last time.

SEN. WARNER: . . . Are you able to say at this time, if we continue what you have laid before the Congress here as a strategy, do you feel that that is making America safer?



GEN. PETRAEUS: Sir, I believe that this is indeed the best course of action to achieve our objectives in Iraq.



SEN. WARNER: Does that make America safer?



GEN. PETRAEUS: Sir, I don’t know actually.
